- The current design is a significant compromise from the original design
- The original design was to construct a raised concrete median for the
entire length of the project
- The raised concrete median will remain in the highest accident rate
areas (Piedmont Road & Blackwell/New Chastain Road)
- Medians:
- provide greater vehicle and pedestrian safety
- improve roadway safety
- reduce delays
- reduce left turning movements
- reduce turning conflicts
- reduce crashes by up to 55%
- First use of stamped asphalt flush median on a Cobb County roadway
(Pilot Project)
- Current accident data will be used as a benchmark to determine the
impacts of improvements, including the stamped asphalt flush median, on
crash rates
- The stamped asphalt flush median may be modified or replaced if
determined to be the cause of increased crashes and/or operational
problems
