Cobb Commissioners Extend School Bus Camera Program
Marietta, GA -- Cobb County Commissioners approved an agreement that will keep the school bus camera program going for another five years. The agreement includes the Board of Education, The Cobb County State Court Clerk, and American Traffic Solutions.
"If you've seen the news lately, you have learned about the growing problem of distracted driving," said Cobb County Public Safety Director Sam Heaton. "The safety of our children must be our top priority and we need to do anything we can to bring awareness to the dangers of passing school buses while they are loading or unloading children."
The agreement comes after the State Court Clerk put in new procedures and added personnel to handle the more than 8,000 cases generated each year. The staggering number of drivers who pass loading school buses put a burden on the clerk's office.
The school board is expected to approve the agreement in the next few days, and there are plans to add cameras to a larger percentage of buses currently on the road.
