March 15, 2024 – The 2023-2024 school year’s Courtroom to Classroom visits have come to a conclusion with visits to the Cobb Superior Court from St. Francis Elementary School on March 8th and Due West Elementary on March 15th.

The students preformed a scripted mock trial to decide whether the defendant “Jamie Joyride” was guilty of stealing bicycles. Through this mock trial, students were afforded the opportunity to assume a wide variety of roles within the courtroom, including attorneys, witnesses, jurors, and courtroom personnel. This hands-on experience allows the students to get a better understanding of the court process and gives them an opportunity to ask questions to real legal professionals.

Judge Jason D. Marbutt presided over the March 8th event, and together he and Judge Angela Z. Brown presided over two sessions on March 15th. “Teaching children about our judicial system is an honor and privilege.  I wish all of our schools would take advantage of this wonderful program,” says Judge Marbutt.

The Courtroom to Classroom program provides the students with a great and unique educational experience and always look forward to hosting them. If you are curious about the program or want to inquire about setting up a date for the 2024-2025 school year, please email Erin Mendez at erin.mendez@cobbcounty.org
