Atho Menaboni - Nature Artist of Georgia

Athos Menaboni (1895-1990) is one of Georgia's most prominent artists, and who is widely recognized for his naturalistic paintings of birds. His greatest patron was Robert Woodruff, Coca-Cola magnate and Atlanta philanthropist.  He is also responsible for large decorative works found throughout the state, including among others at The Temple, the Capital City Club, Swan House, and the R. J. Reynolds Mansion. One of his most unique murals was created for The Citizens and Southern National Bank. This unique eggshell mosaic (6' x 27' is now owned by the DeKalb History Center, and is on permanent exhibition at Decatur's Brick Store Pub.  Guest presenter Russell Clayton is a retired Cobb County teacher.  As an authority on Athos Menaboni, he has guest curated six major exhibitions across Georgia, and is the archivist for the collections at the Troup County Archives in LaGrange. He has also written three exhibition catalogs, and his research has been published in several periodicals, including the American Art Review.  Join us at Sewell Mill Library for an enriching presentation on this local artist.
