First Draft Marathon: Do It For the Plot (Literally)

Tuesday, 10/22/2024 - Tuesday, 10/22/2024
06:00pm - 07:30pm

Continue prepping your project for our First Draft Marathon with our workshop on plot. A story can have the most amazing characters, but if the plot is boring, nonsensical, or unconfrontational, your readers will question the point of your book. Learn how to avoid these mistakes through lively discussion, fun exercises, and absolutely zero running. For ages 13 and up. Registration required.

In conjunction with our First Draft Marathon program. Don't forget our first workshop on character development at Sewell Mill Library on Monday, October 7 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Are you a writer who wants to finally finish their first draft? Do you have an idea for a novel, a short story, or a screenplay, and want the motivation to get it on paper? Sign up now for Cobb Library’s first annual First Draft Marathon! Come to our writing workshops in October, set your writing goal, and spend the month of November racking up your word count. This program is perfect for writers of all genres, styles, experience levels, and ambitions; you can sign up for a full marathon and write 50,000 words in November, a half-marathon (25,000 words), a 10K (10,000 words), a 5K (5,000 words), or a Fun Run, where you participate with no pressure and see how far you get. Throughout November, we’ll have regular writers’ spaces to meet up and write together at Sewell Mill Library, Switzer Library, and East Cobb Library. Then, on December 4th, join us for our Finish Line Celebration, where we celebrate everyone’s progress towards their goals and share some of our writing with one another!
