Join us for our Tween STEAM Club: having fun with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.  Recommended for ages 9-14!

Due to the holidays, this month we’ll be meeting on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month.

This week: Native American Totem Poles.

In celebration of Native American History Month, we will be creating totem poles.

The tall, carved logs called totem poles were erected by Native Americans of the  Northwest Coast. The carved and painted faces on a pole represented the owner's totem animal or bird.

On these poles, each figure on the totem represents part of a story. These totems are used as a way to record the history and legends of the tribes. Figures on a totem pole represent traits and characteristics each clan or story embodies.
