The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate an armed robbery, which occurred at 2498 Cumberland Parkway in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to investigators, a male entered the Rite Aid and produced a firearm to the clerk.  After demanding and receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the perpetrator fled the area in what was described as a dark colored vehicle.  The witness also said that the automobile ran the red light at Cumberland Parkway and Paces Ferry Road before getting onto eastbound I-285.

PERPETRATOR:                      Black male, 5’10’ tall, 220 pounds.  He was last seen wearing a dark “hoodie” and mask.  He was armed with a handgun.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate an armed robbery, which occurred at 3200 Cobb Parkway in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to investigators, two males entered the business of the Homewood Suites and while one of them demanded money (after displaying a screwdriver), the second took the money from the cash drawer when he was handed it by the employee.  After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, both perpetrators fled the area on foot in an unknown direction.

PERPETRATOR(s):      Black male, approximately 6’00” tall, described as being in his 30’s.  He had on black sunglasses, a black leather jacket, a black knit hat, a black shirt and blue jeans.  He was armed with a screwdriver.

Black male, approximately 6’00” tall, also described as being in his 30’s. He had a mustache and light beard, and his hair was cut low.  He was last seen wearing a black jacket (with a hood) and black pants.

The Cobb County Police Departments S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit continues to investigate a fatal traffic collision, which occurred early this morning (October 27, 2017) on Lost Mountain Road at Bullard Road in Powder Springs, Georgia.

According to investigators, the driver of a white 2013 BMW 528 was northbound on Lost Mountain Road at the same time the driver of a white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was eastbound on Bullard Road.  Investigators believe that the driver of the truck disregarded the automatic signal and entered into the path of the BMW.

As a result of the front of the BMW striking the right rear of the truck, the driver of the truck, identified as 21-year-old Fernando Hernandez of Powder Springs, Georgia was ejected from it (due to not wearing a safety restraint).  The truck came to a final rest on its roof just north of Bullard Road.

The driver of the BMW has been identified as 49-year-old Anthony Morgan of Powder Springs, Georgia.  Mr. Morgan complained of minor injuries but refused to be transported to the hospital for treatment.  The driver of the Chevrolet however was transported to Wellstar South Cobb Hospital but was pronounced deceased.

Although alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor, investigators do not expect to file charges in this traffic fatality crash.  Anyone with information about it is asked to call (770) 499-3987.

The Cobb County Police Departments Crimes Against Person Unit is investigating a commercial bank robbery, which occurred at 833 South Cobb Drive in Marietta, Georgia.

Preliminary information from detectives indicates that a male entered the Fidelity Bank and presented a “demand note” to one of the tellers requesting money.  After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from the employee, the male fled across the street to a white van which fled southbound on South Cobb Drive.

PERPETRATOR:          Black male, 6’00” tall, described as being clean shaven; but he had tattoos on his hands and neck.  He was last seen wearing a long sleeve burgundy shirt and blue jeans.  He was also wearing sun glasses and a black hat.

The Cobb County Police Departments Crimes Against Persons Unit in conjunction with the Atlanta Police Department are investigating an apparent homicide, which was discovered on Golden Pine Road in Austell, Georgia.

Preliminary information from investigators indicates that at approximately 0742 hours, the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center dispatched uniform officers from Precinct-2 to a report of a male slumped against the complainant’s front door of his residence.  When officers arrived, they located the body of a male, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.  The deceased male has been identified as 35-year-old Anton Balentay Watson of Smyrna, Georgia.

Detectives further believe that the deceased was also connected with a car, which was abandoned near the intersection of Cityview Drive and Golden Pine Road.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the body and is expected to determine the manner and cause of death.

The Cobb County Police Departments Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate an apparent homicide, which was discovered last Thursday night on Austell Road at Dorothy Drive S.W. in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators, the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center dispatched uniform officers from Precinct-2 to the intersection of Austell Road and Dorothy Drive in reference to a person down.  When they arrived, the body of a male was located on the sidewalk near the intersection, deceased from a gunshot wound.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the body and is expected to determine the manner and cause of death.

The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Rogelio Gonzalez Chairez of Marietta, Georgia.

The Cobb County Police Department C.I.U. (Criminal Investigations Unit) of Precinct-1 continues to investigate a criminal trespass and criminal damage to property, which occurred at 1750 Shiloh Road in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Preliminary information from investigators indicates that on Sunday, October 22, 2017 the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center was contacted by several residents from the Colonial Grand at Shiloh apartment complex in reference to a vandalism to an automobile.  When a uniform officer arrived at approximately 2315 hours, he located the vehicle in question parked near the 900 building.  As the officer approached the car, he observed clearly written in spray paint a racial slur down the entire passenger side.  Upon looking further, the same racial slur word was spray painted down the driver side of the car as well as on the hood.

After running a registration check on his car computer, the officer discovered and went to the registered owner’s apartment, but was unable to locate him.  Within a few minutes of leaving a message on the victim’s phone, the officer was able to speak with him.  After the officer told the victim about the criminal damage to his vehicle, the victim told the officer that he been out of town visiting family since Friday, October 20, 2017 and would be back in town on Monday, October 23, 2017.

On Monday, October 23, 2017, in addition to canvasing the area for possible witnesses, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit processed the car and recovered evidence from it as well as the immediate area around the crime scene. Cobb County authorities have also contacted federal authorities about the crime.

Investigators are asking for the assistance of the public in helping them to locate anyone who may have been seen in and around the area between the 900/1100 buildings anytime from Friday, October 20, 2017 thru the evening hours of Sunday, October 22, 2017.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate an apparent homicide, which was discovered last night on Austell Road at Dorothy Drive S.W. in Marietta, Georgia.

VICTIM:             Hispanic male, thought to be approximately 50 years of age.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the body and is expected to determine the manner and cause of death.

The Cobb County Police Departments S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit continues to investigate a fatality crash, which occurred on Sunday, October 15, 2017 on the East-West Connector at Lipson Drive in Austell, Georgia.

According to investigators, the rider of a yellow 1996 Honda CBR 600 motorcycle was approaching Lipson Drive while traveling westbound on the East-West Connector; at the same time the driver of a white 1999 Ford Taurus was traveling eastbound on the East-West Connector near Lipson Drive.

When the driver of the Ford, identified as 80 year old Frances L. Swann of Powder Springs, Georgia attempted to turn left onto northbound Lipson Drive, she turned into the path of the motorcyclist.  Both vehicles collided in the intersection.

At the time of the crash, the rider of the motorcycle, identified as 45 year old William M. Cook of Austell, Georgia was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Mr. Cook died a short time later as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.  Ms. Swann was not injured in the collision.

The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is updating a serious injury to a pedestrian, which originally occurred Sunday, October 1, 2017 on the East West Connector, just east of Marathon Circle in Austell, Georgia.

On that date and time, preliminary information from investigators indicates that the driver of a gold 2006 Toyota 4 Runner was driving west on the East West Connector in the right lane, just east of Marathon Circle.

Investigators believe that a pedestrian, identified as 32 year old Demetrius Dandridge of Marietta, Georgia attempted to cross from the south to the north side of the road (outside a crosswalk) when he was struck by the vehicle.

The pedestrian was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital by ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota has been identified as 55 year old Sofia Bonilla of Marietta, Georgia. Nor she or her juvenile passenger was injured in the collision.

The S.T.E.P. Unit was notified that Mr. Dandridge died on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

The Cobb County Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate a murder and apparent suicide, which occurred at 6091 Venetian Way in Mableton, Georgia.

According to investigators, as a result of a 9-1-1 call the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center dispatched uniform officers to a residence in reference to two deceased males.  When officers arrived they located the bodies of two males, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim has been identified as 26 year old Dorian Myles Buck of Mableton, Georgia.

The suspect has been identified as 23 year old Dakota Preston Hill of Mableton, Georgia.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office has assumed jurisdiction of the bodies and is expected to confirm the manner and cause of the deaths.

The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit, is investigating a fatal collision which occurred at 2400 Barrett Lakes Boulevard, Kennesaw, Georgia.

The preliminary investigation reveals a green 2016 Kenworth Truck Tractor was being operated by Demarco Farley, 47, in the transfer yard of R&L Carriers.  The Kenworth was already connected to a semi-trailer.  A fifth wheel dolly was connected to the rear of the semi-trailer for the purpose of connecting a second trailer. Farley backed his tractor trailer toward a second trailer as he was attempting to connect to the dolly.  As he was backing, Farley realized he had collided with something.  He exited his truck to find the dolly had collided with Kenneth Scogin, 51, and pushed him into the second trailer.

Scogin died from the injuries he sustained in the collision.  Farley was not injured.

Investigators believe Scogin walked into the path of the backing tractor trailer in an attempt to move a safety pole at the front of the second trailer.  No charges are expected to be filed.

Next of kin has been notified.

The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit continues to investigate a serious injury collision, which occurred on Veterans Memorial Highway (State Route 8) west of Mableton Parkway (State Route 139) in Mableton, Georgia.

Preliminary information indicates a blue 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling east on Veterans Memorial Highway approaching Mableton Parkway when the driver lost control of the vehicle for reasons unknown. The vehicle began to rotate as it crossed the center turn lane and into the westbound lanes. As the Mercury entered the westbound lanes it was struck on the passenger side by a yellow 2007 Freightliner Columbia 120 (Tractor), which was westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway.

The driver of the Mercury has been identified as Darrell J. Sterling, 27, of Marietta, Georgia. He sustained life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. His adult female passenger has been identified as Jasmine M. Morris, 22, of Smyrna, Georgia. Morris also sustained life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital. Both are listed in critical, but stable condition.  

The driver of the Freightliner has been identified as Therone E. Williams, 25, of Riverdale, Georgia. He did not require medical attention at the scene.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate a homicide, which was discovered at 2381 Willington Shoals Place in Smyrna, Georgia.

According to detectives, the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center dispatched uniform officers from Precinct-3 to check on the welfare of a female who did not show up to work.  When it became necessary for officers to force entry into the residence, they discovered the deceased body of 28 year old Shuyi Li of Smyrna, Georgia.

A follow up investigation by detectives have since led them to charge 24 year old Brian Marsh Semrinec of Smyrna, Georgia with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder.

The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit continues to investigate a fatal pedestrian collision, which occurred early yesterday morning on C.H. James Parkway (S.R. #278) east of Oglesby Road in Powder Springs, Georgia.

Preliminary information from investigators indicates that 70 year old Ronald Chrisman of Powder Springs, Georgia was driving the family SUV eastbound on C.H. James Parkway when a piece of luggage fell out of a rear door and onto the roadway.  Within moments of the luggage falling out, Mr. Chrisman turned the vehicle around and stopped in the westbound left turn lane to Oglesby Road.  When his wife, identified as 68 year old Roymane Chrisman of Powder Springs, Georgia got out to retrieve the luggage, she was struck by the driver of a black 2002 Ford Mustang.

Mrs. Chrisman was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Ford, identified as 33 year old Teddy Wetherby of Dallas Georgia was not injured.

Although darkness was a contributing factor (and speed was not), investigators have not yet determined if charges will be filed in the case.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Person’s Unit continues to investigate a homicide, which occurred at 5196 Glendora Drive in Powder Springs, Georgia.

According to investigators, the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center dispatched uniform officers to a report of a person shot inside a home.  When officers arrived, they located a male inside the residence suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified as 20 year old Dazel Johnson of Powder Springs, Georgia was transported by ambulance to Wellstar South Cobb Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

While detectives were conducting their investigation, area law enforcement agencies were contacted and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office officials provided information identifying two possible suspects in the shooting in Cobb County.

As a result, Cobb County detectives have arrested and charged 24 year old Mikal Reid of Douglasville, Georgia and 25 year old Ross Roberts (also of Douglasville, Georgia) with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Armed Robbery.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate a homicide, which was discovered at 2381 Willington Shoals Place in Smyrna, Georgia.

According to detectives, the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center dispatched uniform officers from Precinct-3 to check on the welfare of a female who did not show up to work.  When it became necessary for officers to force entry into the residence, they discovered the deceased body of 28 year old Shuyi Li of Smyrna, Georgia.

A follow up investigation by detectives have since led them to charge 24 year old Brian Marsh Semrinec of Smyrna, Georgia with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder.

The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit continues to investigate a double fatal traffic crash, which occurred on Lower Roswell Road at Ashforde Drive in Marietta, Georgia.

Preliminary information from investigators indicates that a white Dodge Challenger was travelling (at a speed higher than the posted 40 mph) north on Lower Roswell Road approaching Ashforde Drive when the driver apparently lost control on the wet roadway.

The vehicle traveled off the eastern side of the road, collided with a stone sign at the park entrance and caught fire.  The male driver and male passenger were deceased at the scene.

The Cobb County Medical’s Examiners Office has positively identified the two deceased occupants of the 2010 Dodge Challenger as:

Joseph C. Gerace of Tampa, Florida (The 21 year old male has been identified as the driver).

Matthew L. Silvester of St. Augustine, Florida (The 24 year old male has been identified as the passenger).
