Governor Deal announced the appointment along with eight other appointees to various state boards. Chief Register was one of three appointees to the GA POST Council. The Cobb County Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit of Precinct Two is investigating an entering auto theft that occurred at 2804 Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta (Vinings), GA.

Per investigators, the victim was pumping gas at the QuikTrip gas station when a second vehicle pulled alongside her vehicle. What appears to be a male suspect exits the rear of the second vehicle and enters the victim’s vehicle on the passenger side and steals the victim’s purse. The suspect then quickly gets back into the suspect vehicle and the vehicle leaves the parking lot. The victim was unaware of the second vehicle and never saw the suspect enter her vehicle.

The suspect was wearing dark clothing, what appear to be gloves, and a dark hoodie.

This incident may be tied to several “slider” thefts in the metro-Atlanta area. Our detectives are asking for any information which might help in the identification and apprehension of the individuals involved.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons (CAP) Unit is investigating an armed robbery at 1391 Veterans Memorial Hwy in Mableton, GA.

Per investigators, the suspect approached the counter at the Dollar General and demanded money. He was armed with a black and silver semi-automatic pistol. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money from the register and safe, the suspect fled the scene on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male, 18-24 years old, 5’10” to 5’11” tall, and weighing 150 to 160 pounds. He was wearing brown pants, black shoes, a black and brown camouflage jacket with hood, gloves, and a black mask.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Canton Road just south of Cauthen Court in Marietta, GA.

Per investigators, a green 2005 Dodge Caravan was southbound on Canton Road in the right travel lane. As the vehicle traveled south of Cauthen Court a pedestrian was crossing from the eastern edge of the roadway to the western edge (from left to right as the vehicle was traveling). The pedestrian was not in a pedestrian crosswalk. The Caravan struck the pedestrian before he could make it fully across the roadway. The force of the collision knocked the pedestrian into the wooded area on the right shoulder of the roadway.

The driver of the Caravan, 30-year-old Brett D. Murphy of Marietta, was not injured. His front right passenger, 22-year-old Alejandro A. Grover of Marietta, was not injured either.

The pedestrian, 25-year-old Kristopher A. Harvin of Marietta, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious injury collision that occurred at 7440 Factory Shoals Road in Austell, GA.

Per investigators, a green 1997 Pontiac Grand Am was southbound on Factory Shoals Road approaching Six Flags Road. The driver lost control of the vehicle which then went off the right side of the roadway and struck several trees.

The driver, whose identification has yet to be confirmed, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons (CAP) Unit is investigating an armed robbery at 425 Ernest Barrett Parkway, Kennesaw GA 30144.

Per investigators, the suspect entered Sally’s Beauty and demanded money from the cash register. The suspect showed a small black pistol in his waistband. Following the robbery, he fled the scene in a silver Nissan Altima (GA tag of QBK4388). No one was injured in this incident.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid to late 20’s.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Cobb Parkway north of Lake Acworth Drive in Acworth.

Per investigators, a blue 2002 GMC Envoy was travelling south on Cobb Parkway approaching Lake Acworth Drive in the left lane. For unknown reasons the vehicle veered right, exited the roadway, and struck the guardrail on the right shoulder. The vehicle then rolled over the guardrail and rolled down an embankment before coming to rest on its wheels at the bottom of the embankment.

The driver, 54-year-old Tracy Roberts of Acworth, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on C.H. James Parkway at Hill Road in Powder Springs, GA.

Per investigators, a maroon 1990 GMC Safari was traveling north on C.H. James Parkway. As it approached the intersection of Hill Road a white 2016 Hyundai Accent (approaching from the opposite direction) turned left in the path of the Safari. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified as 32-year-old Ronald L. White of Marietta. He was transported by ambulance to Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The rear seat passenger of the Hyundai was identified as 34-year-old Thony-Lourd Ciceron of Hiram. He was transported by ambulance to Cobb Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the GMC was identified as 39-year-old Torre D. Hayes of Marietta. He did not require medical attention at the scene.

This collision remains under investigation and charges are expected upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons (CAP) Unit is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at 1337 Powers Ferry Road in Marietta, GA.

According to investigators a black male suspect entered the Jimmy Johns restaurant and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk gave him the money from the register. The suspect, who was armed with a black pistol, then fled the scene on foot.

Cobb County Police Department Chief of Police Michael Register invites Pastors and staff from all institutions of faith and community members to attend a Faith Forum. The topic of discussion will be “Church Safety and Security.”

This forum is designed to allow pastors or associate pastors an opportunity to have an open discussion with the Chief. Some goals of the forum include: developing results oriented relationships with institutions of faith, to have candid discussion concerning community issues, partner to find solutions for community issues and needs and to be a catalyst for an improved future for all.

The Faith Forum will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 9:30am to 11:00am at the Cobb County Public Safety Training Center located at 2109 Valor Drive, Marietta, GA 30008.

The Cobb County Department of Public Safety (DPS) is announcing its Spring session of the Citizens Public Safety Academy.

This 14-week program provides an opportunity for Cobb County citizens to obtain an insider’s look into the various entities that comprise the Department of Public Safety.  During the course, participants will gain knowledge and insight as to how the Police, Fire, Animal Control, and 911 departments are organized and the important role each plays in fulfilling the myriad tasks that ensure the safety of all the citizens of Cobb County. 

In order to participate, interested citizens should either live in Cobb County or work for Cobb County Government or Schools and be at least 21 years of age.

The Spring Academy start date is Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 6 pm at the Cobb County Public Safety Training Academy located at 2109 Valor Drive, Marietta, GA 30008.

In order to be accepted into the program, applicants must fill out an application.  This application can be emailed to you or be picked up in person at the DPS Training Center located at 2109 Valor Drive, Marietta, GA 30008.  The application will need to be taken to the Cobb County Public Safety Internal Affairs Department located at 1150 Powder Springs Street, Suite 300, Marietta, GA  30064 by Monday, February 26, 2018 at 3 pm.  It is suggested to bring your driver’s license with you as they will need to make a copy for the application process.

Applications that are Wait-Listed will also be held over to the Fall 2018 program if necessary.  If you do not have an email address, please make sure to provide a phone number. 

The first night of the CPSA will meet at the Cobb County Public Safety Training Academy, 2109 Valor Drive Marietta, GA 30008.  Participants will meet the Training staff, receive a presentation and tour the Academy grounds. Please note the first night begins at 6:00 P.M. and all subsequent sessions will meet at 6:30 p.m. at various Cobb County Public Safety locations. Classes will be conducted every Tuesday evening for 14 weeks, with graduation being the 14th week.  A few of the planned activities include:

·         Meeting with distinguished members of the Public Safety Department

·         Touring the 911 Communications Center and the Medical Examiner’s Office

·         Receiving demonstrations from DPS Police Training on weapons/firearms safety and defensive tactics.

·         Participating in classes from the Fire Department special operations, i.e., Hazardous Materials, Heavy Rescue Squad.

The complete schedule will be given out on the first night along with other information.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Cobb Parkway at Vaughn Road in Kennesaw, GA.

Preliminary investigation indicates a black 2014 Yamaha FZ6 (motorcycle), operated by 23-year-old Aldo Lefebre of Acworth, was northbound on Cobb Parkway approaching Vaughn Road. As he passed through the intersection Mr. Lefebre’s motorcycle collided with semi-trailer being pulled by a white 2013 Mack 600 truck tractor being operated by 60-year-old Alexis Arias of Buford, GA. The tractor-trailer was negotiating a left turn onto Vaughn Road from Southbound Cobb Parkway.

Aldo Lefebre was ejected from the motor cycle and suffered multiple injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by the Cobb County Medical Examiner. Next of kin has been notified.

Alexis Arias was not injured in the collision.

Members of The Cobb County Police Department’s Motors Unit were involved in a traffic crash on Kennesaw Due West Rd in Kennesaw, Ga.

Though it appears ice in the roadway was the cause of this crash, any inquiries regarding the crash investigation itself should be directed to the Georgia State Patrol (the agency handling the crash investigation).

As there have been numerous requests for information regarding the status of the officers involved, all three injured motor officers are home recovering. Officers Bullis (5+ year officer) and Kynard (17+ year officer) received relatively minor injuries (scrapes, bumps, and bruises) and were home following a brief hospital visit. Sergeant Garrett (18+ year officer) was far more seriously injured, suffering multiple fractures. Though he is home now, he will require far more medical intervention.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating a robbery that occurred at SunTrust Bank located at 1380 Powers Ferry Road in Marietta, GA.

According to investigators the suspect entered the bank and gave a demand note to a teller. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash he then left on foot. No vehicle description was provided.

The suspect was described as a black male, between 20 to 25 years of age, weighing 175 to 180 pounds, last seen wearing a black baseball hat, camouflaged hoodie, black jacket and blue jeans.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating a hijacking of a motor vehicle that occurred near 3171 Burnt Hickory Road in Marietta, GA.

Precinct Five uniform officers responded to a report of a hijacking of a motor vehicle. They located the uninjured victim, UPS driver Daniel Lee Cash of Woodstock, GA and after a thorough search found the abandoned vehicle as well. Not long afterwards, uniform officers located two suspects on foot in the parking lot of a nearby CVS. The suspects were taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged in this case.

Suspects:  23-year-old Leonardo King of Rex, GA, charged with Hijacking of a Motor Vehicle (F) and Felon in Possession of a Firearm (F).

                  23-year-old Anthony Dwayne Singleton of Stockbridge, GA, charged with Hijacking of a Motor Vehicle (F).

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating a robbery that occurred at Araamda Inn located at 5300 S Cobb Drive in Smyrna, GA.

According to investigators the suspect entered the business and gave a demand note to an employee. Though no weapon was seen, the note indicated the suspect was armed. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash he then fled on foot.

The suspect was initially only described as a light-skinned black male. Investigators have since acquired still pictures of the suspect that are attached.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating a robbery that occurred at SunTrust Bank located at 1380 Powers Ferry Road in Marietta, GA.

On December 12, 2017 suspect Kevin Scott Sosebee (a documented member of the Ghost Face Gangsters) fired multiple rounds at a Cobb County Police Officer during a traffic stop at Community Drive and Mableton Parkway in Mableton, Georgia. Sosbee was able to flee the area to elude capture.  

During the next two days extensive searches were conducted for Sosebee by members of the United States Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit. Law enforcement had received information that Sosebee was hiding in a remote trailer off of Pope Road in Carroll County, Georgia.

On December 15, 2017 Sosebee was located in the Villa Rica, Georgia area by the United States Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force along with Cobb Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Investigators and Carroll County Deputies. Sosebee led law enforcement in a pursuit that extended across two counties and ended as Sosebee fled from the vehicle he was in and attempted to hide inside a gas station off Highway 27 in Carroll County. The gas station was surrounded and Sosebee was taken into custody without incident. 

Sosebee was booked into the Carroll County Jail and then transported back to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center charged with two counts of Probation Violation, Possession of Firearm/Knife during Commission of a Crime, and Aggravated Assault.

The Cobb County Police Department S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit continues to investigate a fatal traffic collision, involving a pedestrian, which occurred on Veterans Memorial Highway S.W. just east of the intersection of Club Drive S.W. in Mableton, Georgia.

Preliminary information from investigators indicates that while the driver of a red 2016 Ford Focus SE was westbound in the Lindley Middle School zone (active with flashing light, school zone warning signs, and reduced speed limit of 25 mph), he swerved left into the center turn lane and around slowing or stopped traffic to continue westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway.  Within moments of doing so, he struck a school crossing guard who was working her post at the west end of the school zone.

The female was deceased on the scene and has been identified as 64-year-old Edna Umeh of Austell, Georgia.

The driver of the Ford has been identified as 38-year-old Lamonte Roosevelt Whitaker of Lithonia, Georgia.  He was transported by ambulance to Grady Hospital with minor injuries.

Yesterday afternoon 38-year-old Lamonte Roosevelt Whitaker turned himself in to S.T.E.P. investigators at Cobb County Police Department Precinct-1.  Lamonte Roosevelt Whitaker was transported and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.  He has been charged with Reckless Driving (M) and Homicide by Vehicle-First Degree (F).

The Cobb County Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate a homicide, which occurred early Saturday morning at 4632 Hunter Road in Powder Springs, Georgia.

According to investigators, the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center dispatched uniform officers from Precinct-5 to a person who had been shot.  When they arrived on the scene they discovered the body of a deceased male lying on the front walkway of the residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Rodney Koen of Powder Springs, Georgia.  The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office assumed jurisdiction of the body and is expected to officially determine the manner and cause of death.

On the evening of Wednesday, November 29, 2017 after conducting an interview at the Cobb County Police Department Crimes Against Person Unit office, detectives arrested 19-year-old Austin Postell of Hiram, Georgia.

Austin Postell is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Crime.

Yesterday (12/12/17), 22-year-old Adam Summers of Dallas, Georgia was taken into custody without incident at the Paulding County Probation Office.

Yesterday, (12/12/17) and in the presence of his attorney, 19-year-old James Reynal of Austell, Georgia turned himself in at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Detectives have charged Adam Summers and James Reynal with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Crime.  Both are being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
