Fatality Crash Investigation (09/28/13 @ 0121 hours in Zone 4) The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is investigating a fatality crash, which occurred on Lower Roswell Road in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators the driver of a black 2013 BMW M6 convertible was westbound on Lower Roswell Road near Surrey Trail. While negotiating a right curve, the driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway striking a mailbox.  The vehicle continued down the sloped shoulder of the roadway and started to flip where it then came to a final rest against a utility pole.  

The driver of the BMW has been identified as 62 year old Roosevelt Schimmel of Marietta, Georgia.  Mr. Schimmel succumbed to injuries he sustained as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The front seat passenger has been identified as 34 year old Michele Pierce of Smyrna, Georgia. Ms. Pierce was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Cobb County Fire Department.  Once freed from the vehicle, she was transported by ground ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in this crash.
