Skip Spann Connector

The Skip Spann Connector—Cobb County’s first lighted bridge—is a 416-foot-long link between Frey Road and Busbee Drive over I-75, which gives commuters improved highway access to Town Center commercial amenities and Kennesaw State University (KSU). A near 20 percent reduction in daily traffic along Chastain Road at the I-75 interchange is expected as a result of the new bridge. Pedestrians and bicyclists now also have improved access between the KSU campus and the university's stadium.

Construction on the Skip Spann Connector began in April 2014, and a ribbon-cutting for the opening of the bridge took place in May 2016. The iconic design mimicking the shape of the Kennesaw Mountains was created by a team of students from Southern Polytechnic State University, Kennesaw State University, and Chattahoochee Technical College. The project—named for the late Thomas E. Skip Spann, founding member of the Town Center Community Improvement District—also included the creation of four lanes of new connecting roadway, 11.5-foot-wide sidewalks, bike lanes, benches, planters and pedestrian lights as well as the realignment of TownPark Lane and the addition of a roundabout at the intersection of TownPark Lane and Busbee Drive.
