(Marietta, Ga. – Nov. 24, 2015) The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the Cobb County Department of Transportation’s collaboration with the Savannah College of Art and Design for a design challenge to enhance and improve the Cobb County Transit bus shelter located at Mable House, 5239 Floyd Road in Mableton.
In collaboration with Cobb County, SCAD students representing the School of Building Arts, the School of Fine Arts and the School of Communication Arts will work individually to develop and present design concepts for the shelter. Final design concepts are due on Feb. 20. DOT department representatives will coordinate with SCAD representatives to review all submissions and the winning design will be announced.
“The SCAD design challenge is a terrific way to utilize and showcase young talent for a public structure that will have a lasting positive effect on the local community,” Vida Covington, CCT general manager, said.
In consideration for SCAD’s administration of the challenge, $5,000 will be paid to support materials, software and other components necessary for design development. The fee is being paid on behalf of Cobb County through a private donation and no county funding will be used.
