Cobb to host USA Softball Junior Olympic Cup

(Marietta, GA- July 13, 2016) Cobb County P.A.R.K.S staff will host the 2016 USA Softball Junior Olympic Cup through the Amateur Softball Association at Lost Mountain Park July 25-30.

This new event is an invitational tournament featuring 32 of the nation's elite softball clubs in both the 16U Division and 18U Division. Teams from across the country including Texas, Arizona, Indiana, Kansas, Georgia, California and Oklahoma will be competing. The top 12 finishers receive a cash donation award back to participating program.

“What a great opportunity to have some of the best teams coming together to play in a tournament that has prestige and a prize,” said USA Softball Women’s National Head Coach Ken Erikson.“We will find out who the most competitive programs in the country are now! The entire USA Softball Coaching Staff will be present also to evaluate these players for our future national teams.”

Timothy Miller from Atlanta Opera will sing the National Anthem before the exhibition game between Team Elite and the Junior Olympic Cup All Stars at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 26., and Beverly Dyer, 80, will throw the first pitch. She has been the gatekeeper at Al Bishop complex for the last 32 years.

The championship games will be played at Kennesaw State University softball field July 30. Games begin each day at 9 a.m. and admission is free.

Cobb's Geographic Information Systems staff created a virtual story map for the tournament to help attendees easily find everything from playing fields, parking, restrooms and concessions.

Lost Mountain Park is located at 4845 Dallas Highway, Powder Springs, Georgia.
