The road to success is always under construction. Well maybe not always, but it can seem that way. We understand that all the recent roadwork in the Cumberland Improvement District has been an inconvenience. But, progress is being made, and when it’s finished it’s going to make travel through the area much easier.
We want to give you as much information as possible to help you navigate some of the tough spots.
Windy Hill Road at I-75 Diverging Diamond Interchange thoroughfare improvements
This interchange will be converted to a DDI. This change will allow for more efficient and safer travel because cars will no longer have to make left-hand turns to access the interstate.
Upcoming work includes erosion control, traffic control, utility relocation, grading and placing graded aggregate base in ramp C and Interstate North Parkway, placing curb and gutter, installing sidewalk on Insterstate North, signal work, paving ramp D, D1 and Interstate North Parkway and continuing construction.
This project is expected to be completed by June.
Windy Ridge Parkway bridge pedestrian improvements
The existing bridge is being widened to provide easier pedestrian access and green space.
Upcoming work includes erosion control, traffic control, complete manually stabilized earth wall construction, set beams and begin decking for bridge.
This project is expected to be completed by the fall.
Cobb Parkway at I-285 westbound off-ramp and Spring Road/Circle 75 Parkway thoroughfare improvements
Existing dual left turn lanes from Cobb Parkway to westbound Spring Road will be widened to create triple left turn lanes. The turn lanes on the I-285 westbound ramp will be lengthened and an additional barrier separated turn lane from the I-285 westbound off-ramp to Circle 75 Parkway will be added. Wider sidewalks will also be constructed.
Upcoming work includes erosion control, traffic control, utility relocations, continuing storm drain installation, continuing wall construction, asphalt paving and curb and gutter placement.
The project is expected to be completed by March.
I-285 multi-use bridge thoroughfare improvements
A bridge spanning Galleria Drive, I-285 and Circle 75 Parkway connecting the Cumberland Galleria area with the new Battery Atlanta Development is being constructed.
Upcoming work includes traffic control, erosion control, continue MSE wall number one construction, set beams for spans two, three, four, five and six on bridge one, begin metal decking on bridge one, begin CIP wall one construction, complete transition of bent at the Galleria, drive pile at bent one bridge one at the Galleria and remove a portion of the Galleria Parkway structure.
