Nuisance Abatement

Abatement: a·bate·ment - the ending, reduction, or lessening of something

To open up a Nuisance case, the complainant must send in a complaint letter including:

  • Nuisance Location
  • A Brief Discription of the Complaint
  • 5 Signatures of Unincorporated Cobb County citizens
The complaint should charge at least one of the following with regard to the property:
  • Property is unfit for human habitation or for commercial, industrial, or business use and not in compliance with applicable codes
  • Property is vacant and being used in connection with the commission of drug crimes
  • Property constitutes an endangerment to the public health or safety as a result of unsanitary or unsafe conditions

Each complaint is evaluated in the order received. Shortly after submittal, a nuisance abatement officer will be in contact with the landlord to schedule an inspection. If the officer determines that violations are present, a violation letter will be sent to the landord. The remedy of violation must be started within 30-days and met within 45-days of issuance. If the corrections are failed to be made, the case may be sent to the Cobb County Attorney for court action.
