Deputy Chief Tanks Retires

After 26 years of dedicated and faithful service, Deputy Chief William “Willie” Tanks has decided to hang up his helmet and retire. A retirement reception was held in his honor on July 31, 2017.

  • 1982 joined United States Navy, 4 years active duty
  • 2 deployments, 1 mobilization to the Middle East Theatre of Operations in support of: Desert Shield, Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom.
  • 16 years, United States Navy Reserves
  • July 1991 began career with Cobb County Fire. Worked his way through the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, and Division Chief.
  • Served with Austell Fire Department and Roswell Fire & Rescue
  • 2006 Retired from United States Navy as Logistics Chief Petty Officer
  • 2013 Appointed Deputy Chief of Preparedness
  • 2016 Lateral move to Deputy Chief of Response/Operations
Although he will be sorely missed, we wish Deputy Chief Tanks the very best as he begins a new chapter in his life!
