On August 7, 2018 Cobb County Police Department will host National Night Out at Jim Miller Park at 2245 Callaway Road. This national event is held on the first Tuesday of August each year throughout the country. Its purpose is simple: to bring together public safety entities and the citizens they serve for an evening of fun interaction. This year marks the 35th year of National Night Out. According to National Association of Town Watch (who introduced National Night Out in 1984) the event “enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.” The very first National Night Out involved 2.5 million citizens in 400 communities in 23 states. It has grown to 38 million citizens in 16,000 communities all across the nation.
Because we have so many neighborhoods in Cobb County we will host National Night Out at a centralized location. Jim Miller Park is the location of this year’s event. There will be a multitude of activities and public safety displays: SWAT, EOD (Bomb), K-9, Underwater Search and Recovery, Motors, our new state-of-the-art Command Vehicle, Firetrucks, Ladder Trucks, etc. Along with the various displays, the units will provide demonstrations. Food trucks will serve food from many different cultures around the world. An “Inflatable City” with more than 15 giant inflatables (some water-related) will be there for the kids to enjoy. Make sure they wear their swim suits! And the School Of Rock will be on the main stage performing all evening. There will be balloon artists, face painters, jugglers, and magicians. We’ll even have the Georgia State Patrol conduct a flyover with their patrol helicopter and then land so visitors can get an up close look at one of their greatest pieces of equipment.
This event looks to be our largest of the year. Residents are encouraged to come out and enjoy a fun-filled time with us as we celebrate our involvement in, and commitment to, the communities we serve.
