Expect heavier traffic on I-75, Cobb Parkway and secondary roads due to I-85 collapse

The Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) and Cobb County Government officials are on standby to assist the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Fulton County transportation division as our neighboring county deals with the aftereffects of the fire and collapse of a portion of Interstate 85.

“We are thankful that no one was hurt, and we are working with GDOT and all parties involved to move traffic as quickly as possible through our main and secondary roads,” said CCDOT Director Jim Wilgus. “Our traffic management center is monitoring the situation closely and staff is ready to assist as necessary.”

Upcoming Road Closure: Meadow Drive at Hembree Road

Meadow Drive will close to through traffic at Hembree Road beginning Monday, April 3, 2017. The closure will continue until mid-July. Students currently walking to Pope High School from Meadow Drive will be provided school bus service. In addition to the closure of Meadow Drive, wall construction on the Meadow Drive side of Hembree Road will require closure of the northbound lane of Hembree Road. Northbound traffic will be shifted into existing left turn lanes at this intersection. Signal timing will be adjusted to mitigate traffic delays.

These closures come as part of a CCDOT and Cobb County School District collaborative project to construct a roundabout with right turn bypass lanes on Hembree Road at Pope High School to improve traffic flow and safety for motorists and pedestrians.
