The Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) will share details about three projects at a public information open house Tuesday, March 7, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mountain View Community Center at 3400 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, 30066. There will be no formal presentation. The projects on display will be Sandy Plains Road at Davis Road (Mountain View Elementary School Relocation), Old Canton Road at Holly Springs Road and Post Oak Tritt Road at Hembree Road. CobbLinc Cumberland Circulator approved

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted to authorize two new transit routes for the CobbLinc Cumberland Circulator beginning in March 2017. These routes are critical for managing congestion and facilitating economic development in the area. The new routes will provide transit options for the business community during the week and SunTrust visitors for Braves home games.

Historic covered bridge to close for safety renovations in summer 2017

Metal support boxes will be constructed inside the landmark Concord Road covered bridge near Smyrna as part of a scheduled safety project that will close the iconic structure for much of summer 2017.

The popular Cobb County-owned bridge is one of the busiest one-lane covered bridges in the South, carrying 7,000 to 10,000 motorists daily. Slated renovations will strengthen it and keep it from leaning.

“The bridge is hit about once a month,” said Jim Wilgus, director of the Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT). “The hits have caused it to lean, and we need to fix that.”

Closures at I-75 overpass on Windy Hill Road planned for interchange work

The Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) will close the Interstate 75/Windy Hill Road overpass for two weekends while crews complete the new diverging diamond interchange (DDI) crossover.

The bridge will be closed to motorists and pedestrians the weekends of Feb. 18-19 and March 4-5, weather permitting. Ramp access will remain open, allowing motorists right turn access only onto Windy Hill Road.  Detour information will be prominently placed throughout the area.

Weekend closure for Circle 75, Windy Ridge intersection

The intersection of Circle 75 Parkway and Windy Ridge Parkway will close at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, for the installation and assembly of two pedestrian bridges for The Battery Atlanta. Closures on Circle 75 Parkway between Windy Ridge Parkway and Crescent Parkway and on Windy Ridge Parkway between Cobb Parkway and Interstate North Parkway will prohibit through traffic. The roadways will reopen Monday, Feb. 12, at 5 a.m. Signage and traffic control devices will be in place to direct drivers. Motorists should follow the posted detour or take alternate routes to avoid congestion and delays.

Cobb County DOT receives GOHS grant for pedestrian safety campaign

The grant, effective through Sept. 30, 2017, will support the Cobb County Pedestrian Safety Campaign. Federal funding will provide 100 percent of eligible costs for the project.
