The Inspections office is responsible for administering and enforcing all applicable building codes with regard to residential and commercial construction in the permitting jurisdiction of the unincorporated areas of Cobb County, as well as providing assistance to our customers so that they may understand and meet the code requirements for their project.
In order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens in the permitting jurisdiction of the unincorporated areas of Cobb County, all construction must meet a series of requirements set forth by specific building codes. This includes new construction, additions to existing structures and remodeling. Both residential and commercial construction must meet these codes, and it is our job to enforce them.

The DCA Board specifically omitted the plumbing, electrical, and energy requirements of the International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings. Therefore, the plumbing requirements of the International Plumbing Code, the electrical requirements of the National Electrical Code, and the energy requirements of the International Energy Conservation Code must be used for one- and two-family dwelling construction.
Erosion & Sediment Control
The Erosion and Sediment Control Division was set up to improve and protect Cobb County's urban soil and water resources by reducing the amount of erosion from urban development sites.
The Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission’s Urban Erosion and Sediment Control Program implements this through the use of best management practices (BMP's) as called for in the soil and water conservation law and delivered through soil and water conservation districts. The program educates erosion and sediment control professionals on urban BMPs and certifies professionals to meet Georgia's standards for land-disturbing activities.
