Dear Readers,

As the summer sun beckons and the days grow longer, Cobb County Library is thrilled to announce the launch of our highly anticipated Summer Reading Program! More than just a tradition, our Summer Reading Program is a celebration of literacy, community, and lifelong learning for readers of all ages. The program launches today and continues until July 31st, offering plenty of time for everyone to dive into the joy of reading and exploration.

Family Bonding and Community Engagement

At Cobb Library, we understand the importance of family bonding time and community engagement, especially during the summer months. That's why our Summer Reading Program is designed to bring families together, fostering shared learning experiences that extend beyond the pages of a book. From infants to adults, there's something for everyone to enjoy and explore!

For Children: Building Language and Reading Skills

For our youngest readers, the Summer Reading Program offers a gateway to language and reading development. Did you know that reading to young children, even infants, can significantly enhance word recognition and vocabulary? Our program provides a wealth of age-appropriate books and activities to ignite a love of reading in children from the earliest ages.

For Students: Preventing Summer Slide

For students, summer vacation can sometimes mean a loss of valuable reading and math skills. Research shows that students are at risk of losing 2-3 months of academic progress over the summer months. Our Summer Reading Program aims to combat this "summer slide" by providing engaging reading challenges and activities that keep students learning, growing, and engaged throughout the summer break.

For Adults: Self-Care Through Reading

And let's not forget about the adults! Amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's essential to carve out time for self-care and personal enrichment. Reading is not only a fantastic way to unwind and relieve stress, but it also strengthens the brain and fosters lifelong learning. Just 15 minutes of reading a day can make a world of difference in your mental well-being and cognitive function.

Join Us for a Summer of Reading and Discovery!

We invite you to join us for a summer of reading, discovery, and endless possibilities at Cobb County Library. Whether you're diving into a new adventure, exploring far-off lands, or simply escaping into the pages of a beloved book, the Summer Reading Program is your ticket to a season of literary delight.

"Here at Cobb County Library, we are thrilled to unveil the exciting changes we've made for this year's Summer Reading Program! We've listened to the feedback from our community and have revamped the program to make it even more engaging and rewarding for participants of all ages. From additional reading incentives to brand-new and exciting prizes, we're taking the Summer Reading experience to the next level,” said Slone Williams, Communications/Community User and Engagement Manager at Cobb County Library.

“And perhaps most exciting of all, we're thrilled to announce that this year's program will culminate in one spectacular system-wide kickoff party! As the proud recipients of the Library of the Year award, we felt it was essential to celebrate together as one system, united in our commitment to literacy, community, and lifelong learning. This kickoff party promises to be an unforgettable event, bringing together readers from across the county to celebrate the joy of reading and the start of a summer filled with literary adventures,” Williams added.
