The Fox Theatre Institute and Georgia Public Library Service are once again partnering to send the popular “Fox in a Box” exhibit on a statewide tour of public libraries. The exhibit will be on display at Switzer Library beginning December 22, 2022 through January 27, 2023.

“Fox in a Box” is an interactive banner exhibit that focuses on how important events in the Fox Theatre’s timeline intersect with American history, the Civil Rights Movement, economics, and the importance of communities. Participants are challenged to think about how communities come together to share an experience and to protect what’s important to them.

“The Fox Theatre Institute is excited to partner with the Georgia Public Library Service to bring Fox in a Box beyond the metro-Atlanta area,” said Leigh Burns, director of the Fox Theatre Institute. “To know that the interactive exhibit and the film have a reach within more of Georgia’s 159 counties helps us meet our goals to increase the awareness and sustainability of historic theatres and cultural centers beyond our own home here at the Fox. We are grateful for the opportunity and growing our partnership.”

While hosting the exhibit, libraries will conduct immersive, entertaining educational sessions for patrons using a history lesson provided by the Fox Theater Institute. The lesson takes patrons on a “tour” of the Fox’s history using a slideshow, video, and archival images.

“Through partnerships with organizations across the state, Georgia’s public libraries provide families with educational and recreational opportunities to spend time together while saving money,” said Julie Walker, Vice Chancellor for Libraries and Archives and State Librarian. “The ‘Fox in a Box’ exhibit is another fantastic benefit of your free library card, and we're so pleased to continue our wonderful relationship with the Fox Theatre Institute in their outstanding cultural programming.”

About the Fox Theatre Institute

The Fox Theatre Institute (FTI) is a dynamic outreach program offering historic preservation expertise, consultation, and education to performing arts venues in Georgia and the region. Created by Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, an iconic attraction widely applauded for being a catalyst for positive change in the community, FTI pays it forward, helping other cultural institutions renew, reinvigorate, and restore artistic vitality in their backyards and beyond. Keeping environmental and economic impact top of mind, FTI offers the financial assistance, restoration support and operations mentoring needed to leverage scarce resources and stimulate local economies. Not only that, but it keeps the artistic pulse of beloved communities beating for decades to come. FTI was recently featured on NPR’s Marketplace for its substantial impact on historical theatre restoration and community building throughout Georgia and the Southeast.
