Cobb County Board of Commissioners Ends Agreement with Developer, But Door to Deal Remains Open

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted in June to end an agreement with a developer concerning an exchange of property in District 2. The county would have obtained property on Leland Drive for a satellite transportation facility, and the developer would have received property off Terrell Mill Road.

The agreement was designed to resolve concerns about placing a residential development near the approach to a runway at Dobbins Air Reserve Base. However, the county and developer could not agree on terms regarding access to a development off Terrell Mill Road.

Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Lisa Cupid says the door to an agreement is not closed despite the board's action.

"Ongoing discussions are still occurring with the developer," Cupid said. "We hope to have an agreement that meets the interests of the developer and county that does not conflict with FAA guidelines."

Cupid noted that during the past two years, the developer retained the right to develop the originally zoned property off Leland Drive.

"I believe the fact the developer has yet to develop on the original site reflects an ongoing shared interest in arriving at agreeable terms between the developer and the county to support the developer's move to the site off of Terrell Mill Road," Cupid said.
