Cobb County Libraries offering many Saturday options for Memorial Day Weekend

The Cobb County Public Library calendar shows a busy Saturday as the Memorial Day weekend starts and the summer break gets in full swing for many local students and families.

The CCPL May 25 lineup includes:

Open Jam, a chance for artists age 13 and up to play music, meet fellow music makers, network, cowrite songs and be inspired is 1 pm to 3 pm Saturday at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center, 2051 Lower Roswell Rd, Marietta 30068. Singers, guitarists, drummers, rappers, producers, songwriters, pianists and other artists will be welcomed. Registration is encouraged at cobbcat.org/events. For information, call 770-509-4988.

The West Georgia Ukulele Ensemble will provide lessons 12:30 pm to 1 pm Saturday at Sweetwater Valley Library, located in the Threadmill Complex, 5000 Austell-Powder Springs Rd., Austell 30106. Saturday Storytime – read, sing, dance and play – for families with children of all ages meets May 25 at 10:30 am at Lewis A. Ray Library, 4500 Oakdale Rd., Smyrna 30080. The program will be followed at 11 am by Saturday Stay and Play, a drop-in program for children age five and younger accompanied by a participating adult to join together at play stations, engage in art activities and music while enjoying being social. A “Plant. Eat. Repeat” workshop by Food Well Alliance and the Atlanta Botanical Garden is scheduled for Saturday from 2 pm to 4 pm at North Cobb Regional Library, 3535 Old 41 Highway, Kennesaw 30144. Workshop participants will learn the basics of vermicomposting and how to transform food scraps and organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer for plants. Getting Started with Sourdough, a program on the art of sourdough bread and other recipes, is 11 am Saturday at West Cobb Regional Library, 1750 Dennis Kemp Lane, Kennesaw 30152. Registration is not required. Flour and water will be provided. With a limited number of jars available, participants may bring a 12 ounce or larger jar to use in the program. The Saturday Craft Club with Hawk Run Hollow Stitchers meets May 25, 10 am to 4 pm, at Mountain View Regional Library, 3320 Sandy Plains Rd., Marietta 30066. The program is for adult crafters of all skill levels, including beginners, to practice skills to knit, crochet, cross-stitch, needlepoint, and other portable crafts. Crocheting for Adults meets Saturday 2 pm to 3 pm at Switzer Library, 266 Roswell St. in downtown Marietta. All materials will be provided. No registration required. For information, call 770-528-2320.

The Teen Tech Titans: Exploring IT, Cybersecurity and AI class meets at noon Saturday at Switzer Library. The May 25 class will be presented by Senior Solutions Engineer Kai Tillman. Teen Tech Titans classes are designed to simplify complex concepts for teens through fun, interactive and engaging presentations. For information, call 770-528-2379.
