Serious Injury Collision (Dec.8,2018)

December 10, 2018

The Cobb County Police Department’s Specialized Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious injury collision that occurred Saturday morning at approximately 12:10 a.m. on I-75 South prior to Windy Hill Road. According to investigators, a red 2011 Honda Accord was southbound on the interstate in the left lane traveling at a high rate of speed. The Honda changed lanes to the right and sideswiped a blue 2010 Subaru Forester and then collided with a silver 2013 Hyundai Sonata. Both the Subaru and Hyundai spun to the left and came to rest on the left shoulder of the interstate. The Honda continued south, crossing five lanes of traffic before coming to rest in the sixth lane from the median wall.

The driver of the Honda, 24-year-old Otis O. Nunes, Jr of Tallahassee, Florida, exited the car and walked in front of it. The Honda was then struck from behind by a white 2011 Volvo tractor-trailer. The collision pushed the Honda into Nunes, who was seriously injured in the collision. He was transported to Kennestone Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The Volvo continued south and came to rest on the left shoulder. The drivers of the Volvo, Subaru, and Hyundai did not require medical attention at the scene. Respectively, they are identified as 31-year-old Farhan Mohamed of Logan, Utah; 25-year-old Forrest Schweitzer of Atlanta, GA; and 40-year-old Daron Oby of Riverdale, GA.

This collision remains under investigation by the STEP Unit and anyone with information is asked to call 770-499-3987.
