Delayed Fire Fatality
On 12/27/2018 at approximately 00:33 hours Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a reported residential structure fire located at 4806 Missy Way Powder Springs, Georgia. Arriving units found a single-story structure built over a basement heavily involved by fire. A 40 year old male had self-evacuated. A 39 year old female and a juvenile male both required a ground ladder rescue. The adult male, Richard Elrod, was transported to WellStar Cobb Hospital for minor injuries and was later released. The adult female, Teresa Elrod, was pronounced deceased upon arrival to WellStar Cobb Hospital. The juvenile male was transported to WellStar Cobb Hospital and later transferred to Grady Health Center where he succumbed to his injuries sustained during the fire incident. This investigation is ongoing pending the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s definitive findings relative to the cause of death for both victims.
