Cobb County and the City of Powder Springs finalized the purchase of the City’s water distribution system and wastewater collection system by the Cobb County Water System at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 25, 2019.

The City and County have, for some time, discussed for the possibility of a unification of the City and County systems to provide more effective services to all customers and reduce costs by eliminating certain redundancies associated with the management and operation of two separate systems.  The sale was finalized prior to the end of Powder Spring’s Fiscal Year on June 30, 2019.

It is anticipated many Powder Springs customers will see a reduction in their cost of water and wastewater service.   Affected customers should receive their first water bill from Cobb County Water System in late July or early August.  More information about Cobb County Water System can be found at www.CobbWater.org.

“We look forward to providing Powder Springs’ customers the same high quality of service that we have traditionally provided.  In the next few days, we will send these customers a welcome letter with helpful information about the Cobb County Water System.  Even though operation during this transition period may be somewhat challenging, we believe that this step will be of benefit to both the City and the Water System,” said Steve McCullers, Cobb County Water System Director.
