Serious Injury Collision

The Cobb County Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious injury collision which occurred in Precinct Three on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 6:01 p.m. on South Cobb Drive near Walthall Avenue.

According to investigators, a white 2009 Kia Spectra was northbound on South Cobb Drive near Walthall Avenue. As the Kia approached a private driveway near 1155 South Cobb Drive, a vehicle began entering the roadway from the private driveway. The Kia suddenly swerved to the left and passed in front of the other vehicle. This sudden movement caused the Kia to rotate, exit the roadway, travel down a steep grade, and roll end over end before coming to a final stop.

The driver of the Kia, 39-year-old Sonia Mendez of Marietta, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Kennestone Hospital. Her injuries are not expected to be life threatening.  

The passenger of the Kia, 24-year-old Alejandro Gonzalez-Acosta of Douglasville, was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Kennestone Hospital for treatment and was released shortly after.
