The Cobb Superior Court announces that Senior Assistant District Attorney Brendan F. Murphy has been appointed as Cobb Chief Magistrate.

Mr. Murphy is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the University of Georgia Law School. He has 9 years' experience as a prosecutor as well as several years in private, civil practice. Murphy and his wife Sarah have two children, ages 7 and 5. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the Cobb Bar Association, is active in his church and community associations.

"Mr. Murphy has the well-rounded legal and managerial experience to serve as our next Chief Magistrate Judge, but more importantly, he has the right temperament. In the last three years that he has been the Senior Assistant District Attorney assigned to my courtroom, I have seen a man of character and integrity, a person who is patient, listens well, and treats everyone with respect," said Chief Judge Reuben M. Green.

The magistrate' s office has a staff of 70 with three, full-time judges and over a dozen part-time magistrates. The magistrate court operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, issuing warrants, holding detention hearings, bond hearings, probable cause hearings, as well as temporary protective order matters. The chief magistrate oversees the operations of this court and assists the Superior Court in handling felony drug cases.

Mr. Murphy will be sworn in at a ceremony to be scheduled in the near future according to Superior Court Administrator Tom Charron.
