The Cobb County Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is assisting the Austell Police Department with investigating a serious injury collision that occurred on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at 5:34 p.m. on Veterans Memorial Highway near Davis Drive.

Per investigators, a black 2007 Dodge Caliber was traveling east on Veterans Memorial Highway. A grey 2011 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west on Veterans Memorial Highway. The Dodge failed to maintain its lane and entered the center turn lane. The Dodge collided head on with the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as 18-year-old Carmen E. Pettiford of Austell. She was transported to Cobb Hospital with injuries that are not expected to be life threatening.

The driver of the Dodge was identified as 36-year-old Ginger R. Jones of Decatur. She was transported to Grady Hospital with injuries that are not expected to be life threatening.
