Fatal Traffic Crash

Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Wednesday, February 19 at 12:01 p.m. Per investigators, a yellow 2013 International 4300 box truck was eastbound on Riverside Parkway when the driver lost control of the vehicle. After colliding with two street signs in the median of Riverside Parkway, the truck went off the right side of the roadway and crashed through the fence in front of Azure at Riverside Apartments. It then crashed into a large tree in front of the apartment complex.

The driver, 47-year-old Joseph T. Gilbert of Hiram, was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Assist Acworth Police Department

Serious Injury Traffic Crash

Cobb County Police Department’s STEP Unit is assisting the City of Acworth Police Department with the investigation into a serious injury motorcycle crash that occurred on Wednesday, February 19 at 1:56 p.m. Per investigators, a brown 2019 Toyota Corolla was northbound on Cowan Road turning left onto Cowan Connector. A black 2018 Yamaha YZFR3 motorcycle was southbound on Cowan Road approaching the intersection. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, and the motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle.

The driver of the Toyota, 76-year-old Ludene G. Harris of Acworth, was not seriously injured. The motorcyclist, 23-year-old Errol j. Simms of Acworth, was transported to Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries.
