Public Safety Topic of the Month

Covid-19 Scams

Scammers are experts at shifting tactics and changing their messages to catch you off guard. This is especially true as they take advantage of anxieties related to the Coronavirus.

  • Scammers might call to offer things like a “COVID-19 kit,” or “Coronavirus package,”
  • There have been reports of emails that purport to be from hospitals, warning consumers that they may have come in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. 
  • If you respond to these messages, the surest sign that it is a scam is when they ask you for money, personal information, or both. Don’t give it.
  • Scammers will ask you to not only send cash, but also pay with a gift card,  wire money, or even pay with cryptocurrency.

We caution consumers not to click on any links or go to websites that come from unsolicited texts, emails or phone calls. Instead, use legitimate websites, such as:

Community Affairs Officers for Precinct 2

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Officer Rivion Cole on May 4, 2020 due to long term health conditions. He was a 21-year veteran of the Cobb County Police Department beginning his career in 1999 at Precinct 2 as a uniform officer. He was assigned to the Community Affairs Unit where he served the Precinct 2 community. No matter the obstacles he battled, he always put others first. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Officer Hill is assigned as the Community Affairs officers serving the community in Precinct 2.

The Community Affairs Unit seeks to effectively engage the community and citizens to strengthen Public Safety and community partnerships, facilitate a joint effort in solving problems which affect our community, and foster enhanced trust, communication, transparency, and mutual respect.

Your Precinct 2 Heroes at Work

Reckless Conduct

On 5/9/2020 at 11:13 p.m., several residents of Ivy Commons apartments called 911 regarding a subject seen outside the 800 Building discharging a firearm. The suspect was spotted by arriving officers and began fleeing the area on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, officers caught the suspect and detained him. He was charged with 2 Counts of Reckless Conduct and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. During the investigation, an officer located the suspect's firearm abandoned in a bush along the path the suspect had fled.

Armed Robbery

On 5/5/2020 at 2 a.m., officers responded to the RaceTrac on Floyd Rd to meet with a victim of an armed robbery. The victim had some property taken from him at gun point and was beaten with the pistol during the assault. The robbery had actually occurred nearby at a residence. Officers went to the area, located the armed suspect, and detained him. He was in possession of a stolen firearm. The suspect was charged with Armed Robbery, and various weapon offenses.

Cobb County Camera Registry

The Cobb County Police Camera Registration program is a police/community video partnership that operates on a voluntary basis with homeowners, neighborhoods and business owners who own private video surveillance systems. We encourage both businesses and residents to register their cameras online by completing the form below.

This program is intended to let our officers know where cameras are active in the county in case a crime occurs. It is not intended for active surveillance, and officers will not have direct access to homeowners' cameras. Those who register a camera will be contacted if a crime occurs in the vicinity of that camera. Information provided by residents and businesses will be maintained in a secure database.

Cobb PAL focuses on juvenile crime prevention through athletic and recreational activities for Cobb County’s high-risk neighborhoods, primarily in South Cobb.
