Crime Prevention for Kids

Each year thousands of children are victimized by crime. Wherever you are, always remember to be aware of what is going on around you. The following tips are important for crime prevention.

Be Safe in Your Apartment or House

• Have your keys ready as you approach your door to enter.
• Do not attempt to enter your residence if you see a suspicious person in front of it or walking behind you. Instead go to a neighbor you trust.
• Do not open your door for strangers, no matter how friendly they seem. If they want to use your phone in an emergency, make the call for them.
• If you are alone in a house, try to keep a radio or television turned on to give the impression that the residence is occupied.
• Never tell anyone at the door or on the phone that you are home alone. Do not give out any information.

Be Safe on the Streets

• Have your mom, dad, or both walk your school route with you to make sure it is safe.
• When your mom or dad cannot walk with you, walk with a friend. Two heads are better than one, especially if there's an emergency. Strangers usually pick on one person.
• Always stick to the same route when going and coming from school.
• Don't take shortcuts.
• Be observant as you walk. If you think you are being followed, you can cross the street.
• If you think you are in danger, yell for help and run to the nearest store or back to school.
• If a stranger in a car asks you questions, don't get close to the car, and never get in.
• Remember, a stranger is anyone you and your parents don't know or know well.
• Don't tell anyone your name and address when you are out walking and don't think that because someone knows your name that they know you, maybe they heard someone else call you by name.

Establish a code or secret word that only you and your parents know.

Community Affairs Officers for Precinct 2

The Community Affairs Unit seeks to effectively engage the community and citizens to strengthen Public Safety and community partnerships, facilitate a joint effort in solving problems which affect our community, and foster enhanced trust, communication, transparency, and mutual respect. Officers work with homeowner’s associations, community organizations, advocacy groups, public and private schools, faith-based organizations, and individual residents to promote partnerships that are mutually beneficial.

As a result of these working partnerships, the officers are able to develop pro-active crime fighting projects that are jointly undertaken by Department personnel and citizens.

Officer Mike Hill is assigned as the Community Affairs officers serving the community in Precinct 2.

Your Precinct 2 Heroes at Work

Armed Robbers Arrested

On 8/2/21 officers located a vehicle that was reportedly used in two armored vehicle robberies. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle by boxing it in to prevent a chase. The vehicle drove recklessly to escape the officer’s box-in attempt. Due to the seriousness of the offenses and the danger to the public, a short chase ensued and both occupants were arrested.

Theft in progress

On 8/29/21, officers responded to a call of a theft in progress. Dispatch advised the officers that a group of people were having a get together outside when the observed a male enter one of the vehicles and try to start it. The homeowners rushed to the vehicle and pulled the male out. The male produced a handgun and stated that he would kill everyone. The homeowners disregarded the male’s threats and continued to subdue him until the officers arrived. The male was taken into custody and it was determined that he was wanted for larceny and aggravated assault. The male was taken into custody for the warrants as well as several other charges.

Reckless Conduct/Discharging a firearm

Officers were dispatched to multiple reports of a person discharging a firearm in an apartment complex. Officers arrived and learned of an ongoing dispute between two neighbors. During this incident, multiple subjects engaged in a heated argument in the breezeway. One of the male subjects produced a firearm and discharged nine rounds into the air. He then fled the scene. Officers collected the shell casings as evidence. The male was identified, and warrants were secured for his arrest for Reckless Conduct and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Cobb County Camera Registry

The Cobb County Police Camera Registration program is a police/community video partnership that operates on a voluntary basis with homeowners, neighborhoods and business owners who own private video surveillance systems. We encourage both businesses and residents to register their cameras online by completing the form below.

This program is intended to let our officers know where cameras are active in the county in case a crime occurs. It is not intended for active surveillance, and officers will not have direct access to homeowners' cameras. Those who register a camera will be contacted if a crime occurs in the vicinity of that camera. Information provided by residents and businesses will be maintained in a secure database.
