The Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Mars Hill Road north of Giles Road on Friday, February 5, 2021, at 10:54 a.m. 

According to investigators, a blue 2019 Nissan Frontier traveled north on Mars Hill Road north of Giles Road. While negotiating the left curvature of the road, for reasons unknown, the driver failed to maintain his lane of travel. The Frontier exited the roadway at the eastern edge and entered the front lawn of 3042 Mars Hill Road. The Frontier then continued across the lawn, traveled down an embankment, and came to a final uncontrolled rest in a creek. 

The driver of the Nissan Frontier, 70-year-old William J. Schirrmacher of Acworth, was fatally injured and pronounced deceased on the scene. His next of kin has been notified.
