Fatal Traffic Collision

The Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Shiloh Road near Tweed Drive on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at 4:31 p.m. 

According to investigators, a white 1999 Toyota Solara was traveling north on Shiloh Road at Tweed Drive, racing a black 2012 Acura TL. Both the Toyota Solara and the Acura TL were traveling over the posted 35 mph speed limit. The Toyota Solara attempted to pass the Acura TL in a no-passing zone as they approached a curve, and both vehicles began to yaw, shift from its center of gravity. The Toyota Solara crossed the double yellow line during the yaw and collided head-on with a silver 2014 Nissan Altima that traveled south on Shiloh Road approaching Tweed Drive. The Toyota Solara was then redirected, and the front of the Acura TL collided with the driver’s side of the Toyota Solara. The Toyota Solara came to an uncontrolled rest facing west off the roadway near Shiloh Road, as the Acura TL came to an uncontrolled rest facing north partially in the southbound lane of Shiloh Road.

The driver of the Toyota Solara, 26-year-old Joseph Youngs of Acworth, was entrapped in the Toyota Solara and extricated by the responding Cobb County Fire units. Youngs was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Next of kin has been notified. 

The passenger of the Toyota Solara, 20-year-old Megan McQueen of Acworth, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Acura TL, 33-year-old Neville Ryan of Kennesawwas taken into custody on the scene and charged with 1st Degree Vehicular Homicide (F) and Reckless Driving (M). Ryan was transported to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.The driver of the Nissan Altima, 30-year-old Rogdre Hazle of Acworthwas transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
