The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on April 7, 2019 at 4:44 p.m. on Floyd Road at Bates Drive.

Per investigators, a black 2010 Toyota Yaris was traveling west on Bates Drive approaching the intersection of Floyd Road. As the Toyota Yaris turned left onto Floyd Road, it entered the path of a red 2006 Infiniti G35 that was traveling north on Floyd Road and the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the Toyota Yaris was identified as 31-year-old James Wheeler of Acworth. He was transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital and pronounced deceased. The passenger of the Toyota Yaris, 35-year-old Douglas Duff Jr of Mableton, was also transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital where he was also pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Infiniti G35 was identified as 19-year-old George Cambi of Austell. He and a juvenile passenger of his were transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Multiple witnesses claimed that the Infiniti was racing another vehicle northbound on Floyd Road and the collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3987.
