April 16, 2019 Fatal Traffic Collision

*****UPDATE***** On 04/15/2019, The Cobb County Magistrate’s Office issued an arrest warrant for George Cambi with the charges of Reckless driving, Racing, two counts of 1st Degree Vehicular Homicide, and 2nd Degree Cruelty to Children.

Mr. Cambi turned himself in to the Cobb County Jail on 04/15/2019. The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit has identified the vehicle Mr. Cambi was racing as a silver or gray 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The vehicle has several distinguishing features including silver wheels on the front and black wheel on the back, dark tinted windows, a black hood and a loud exhaust. Investigators would like to speak with anyone who saw this vehicle during the afternoon of 04/07/2019. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3987.

PUBLIC INFORMATION RELEASE April 8, 2019 Fatal Traffic Collision The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on April 7, 2019 at 4:44 p.m. on Floyd Road at Bates Drive. Per investigators, a black 2010 Toyota Yaris was traveling west on Bates Drive approaching the intersection of Floyd Road. As the Toyota Yaris turned left onto Floyd Road, it entered the path of a red 2006 Infiniti G35 that was traveling north on Floyd Road and the two vehicles collided. The driver of the Toyota Yaris was identified as 31-year-old James Wheeler of Acworth. He was transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital and pronounced deceased. The passenger of the Toyota Yaris, 35-year-old Douglas Duff Jr of Mableton, was also transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital where he was also pronounced deceased. The driver of the Infiniti G35 was identified as 19-year-old George Cambi of Austell. He and a juvenile passenger of his were transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Multiple witnesses claimed that the Infiniti was racing another vehicle northbound on Floyd Road and the collision remains under investigation.
