Cobb County Police Department’s Specialized Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal vehicle collision on I-75 South at Wade Green Road. In the early morning hours of November 30, 2018 at approximately 2:08 a.m. a gray 2016 Toyota Corolla was southbound in the right lane when the vehicle failed to maintain its lane and exited the right side of the roadway. The car traveled down the grass embankment and collided with a concrete bridge pier at the Wade Green overpass.

The driver, 30-year-old Vireshwar Kumar of West Lafayette, Indiana, and an adult female passenger were transported by ambulance to Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. However, a 14-month-old child who had been in the rear seat was critically injured in the collision. The child was transported to Kennestone as well where he was pronounced deceased.

Investigators suspect driver fatigue to be a contributing factor in this collision. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department’s STEP Unit at 770-499-3987.
