Fatal Traffic Collision (pedestrian)

The Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Cobb Parkway, north of Jim Owens Road, on February 15, 2021, at 7:21 p.m. 

According to investigators, a black 2020 Dodge Challenger was traveling south on Cobb Parkway in the right lane approaching Jim Owens Road. A pedestrian was walking on the western shoulder of Cobb Parkway. The driver of the Challenger made a right steering input to avoid a collision with another vehicle and left the roadway colliding with the pedestrian on the western shoulder. The pedestrian was projected south and came to final uncontrolled rest on the west shoulder. The Challenger came to final uncontrolled rest on the west shoulder facing east.

The driver of the Dodge Challenger, 17-year-old Karianna Bartley of Dallas, was not injured. 

The pedestrian, 56-year-old Kevin Chase of Kennesaw, was pronounced deceased on scene. His next of kin has been notified.
