Fatal Vehicle Collison

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) unit is investigating a multi-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on northbound I-75 just south of Big Shanty Road (between Barrett Pkwy and Chastain Rd) at 11:09 a.m. on February 11, 2021.

Preliminary information indicates that a single northbound vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into the left (western) guardrail. As traffic slowed, a second collision involving two tractor trailers and a car occurred south of the first collision. These two collisions set off a chain of collisions involving an additional 13 vehicles.

The following vehicles were involved in the fatal crash:

A white 2002 Freightliner towing a semi-trailer,

A green 2020 Ford F-150,

A gray 2011 Toyota Yaris,

A white 2015 Ford Econoline E-350,

A white 2016 Kenworth towing a semi-trailer,

A white 2002 GMC Savana,

A silver 2001 Audi TT,

A white 2017 Volkswagen Golf,

A black 2017 RAM 3500 towing a car hauler,

A white 3500 Chevrolet Silverado,

A red 2011 Ram 3500 towing a two-axle gooseneck trailer,

A blue 2019 Chevrolet Colorado,

A silver 2016 Mercedes Sprinter Van.

Fifty-eight year old Boniface Ndiangui of Marietta was operating the white 2002 Freightliner towing an enclosed semi-trailer in the northbound travel lanes on I-75.  The front of the Freightliner collided with the rear of the car hauler being towed by the black 2017 RAM 3500. Mr. Ndiangui succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

There were other involved motorists that sustained non-life threatening injuries during the collision.

Cobb County Police STEP Investigators are requesting the assistance of anyone in the area of the collision that may have dashcam or video of the collision as it occurred to call 770-499-3987.  This collision remains under investigation.
