Fatal Vehicle Collison *UPDATE/ARREST*

The Cobb County Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit began investigating a fatal vehicle collision on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 4:44 p.m. The collision occurred on Floyd Road at Bates Drive in Precinct Two.

A black 2010 Toyota Yaris was westbound on Bates Drive. A red 2006 Infiniti G35 was northbound on Floyd Road. The Toyota made a left turn, to travel south on Floyd Road, and entered the path of the Infiniti. The Infiniti collided with the left side of the Toyota.

The driver of the Toyota was identified as 31-year-old James Wheeler of Acworth. The passenger was identified as 35-year-old Douglas Duff Jr. of Douglasville. Both males were transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Infiniti was identified as 19-year-old George Cambi of Austell. Mr. Cambi and a juvenile passenger were transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses said the Infiniti was racing another vehicle on Floyd Road.

On Monday, April 15, 2019, the STEP Unit obtained a warrant for Mr. Cambi. Mr. Cambi was charged with Reckless Driving, Racing, two counts of 1st Degree Vehicular Homicide, and 2nd Degree Cruelty to Child. Mr. Cambi turned himself in to the Cobb County Jail. At this time, investigators began looking for a grey or silver 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer with silver wheels on the front, black wheels on the rear, dark tinted windows, a black hood, and loud exhaust.

Investigators obtained evidence that placed the owner of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer in the vehicle at the time of the fatal collision. On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, the STEP Unit obtained a warrant for 26-year-old Xavier Flores of Marietta. Mr. Flores was charged with Racing, Reckless Driving, two counts of 1st Degree Vehicular Homicide, and two counts of Felony Hit and Run. Mr. Flores was arrested and booked into the Cobb County Jail.
