*UPDATE*

On November 4, 2019, the Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit arrested and charged 17-year-old Kevin Mendez and a 14-year-old juvenile with Murder (F), Aggravated Assault (F), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime (F), and Possession of a Pistol by a Minor (M).

Mr. Mendez was transported to Cobb County Adult Detention Center. The juvenile was transported to the youth detention center (YDC).

Homicide Investigation

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred in Precinct 2 on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 12:16 a.m. at 100 Plantation Hill Road SE.

Per investigators, a victim with a gunshot wound was being driven to the hospital. The driver observed a Cobb County Police vehicle at the QuikTrip gas station located at 7130 Mableton Parkway. Contact was made with the officer and a request for medical assistance was made. EMS personnel responded to the location and transported the victim to Grady Hospital. The victim later died from his injuries.

As the investigation continued, investigators determined that the location of the incident was Waverly Mobile Home Park (100 Plantation Hill Road SE).

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Roman Orlando Mejia-Nunez of Austell. Next of kin has been notified.
