National Night Out
On August 7th, 2018, the Cobb County Police Department will be hosting National Night Out. This is a national event held on August 7th of each year throughout the country. The purpose is very simple: to bring the public safety community and the citizens they serve together for an evening of fun. The original concept was to have the officers and firefighters go out to the neighborhood get-to-gathers and spend time with the citizens as they BBQed and socialized.
Here in Cobb County, we have many, many neighborhoods. Unfortunately, our manpower will not allow us to go out to the neighborhoods individually. With that, we have decided to have National Night Out at a central location Jim R. Miller Park. This is the location of the fair/circus each year. The date will be August 7th and the times will be from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. We are hoping to attract a large crowd.
There will be A LOT of activities going on. Cobb Police Department and Cobb Fire Department will have a wide variety of their equipment on display. Swat, Bomb, K-9, Dive, Motors, our new Command Vehicle, Med-Ops, Fire trucks, Ladder Trucks, etc. the list goes on and on. This will allow the community to see everything that the Police and Fire Departments have to offer. With these displays comes demonstrations by the different specialized units.
Food trucks will be serving foods from around the world: Latin, Greek, American, German. Dessert vendors will be on sight as well.
There will be an “Inflatable City” with over 15 giant inflatables for the children to enjoy. Several will be water related, so let the kids bring their swimsuits. The SCHOOL OF ROCK will be on the main stage rocking out the midway all evening. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the show.
Walking entertainment such as balloon artist, jugglers, and magicians will be entertaining the crowd as they make their way around all the activities.
The Georgia State Patrol will be doing a flyover with their patrol helicopter then landing so everyone can look at one of their greatest pieces of equipment. Other static displays will be present such as the US Military, local ambulance services, HERO, etc.
This is the largest event of the year offered by the Cobb County Police Department. We hope you will take advantage of the activities and we hope to see you on August 7th.
