Report It

With all the new gadgets and electronics that all of you received from Santa over the Holidays, you need to take advantage of the Report It program that is provided to you free by LeadsOnline. The Cobb County Police Department contracts with a company called LeadsOnline which collects data on pawned items that might have been taken in a theft or criminal activity. The system adds millions of records each day and is used by more than 4,000 law enforcement agencies to recover stolen property and solve crimes. LeadsOnline also provides a service called Report It which is a free, secure online service allowing citizens to record an unlimited number of serial numbers, descriptions and upload images of phones, electronics, and other valuables. Should those items ever be stolen, you can share your inventory list with law enforcement and with your insurance company. Citizens wanting to participate in Report It can register at reportit.leadsonline.com and begin building their personal property inventory list.

Cobb County Camera Registry

The Cobb County Police Camera Registration program is a police/community video partnership that operates on a voluntary basis with homeowners, neighborhoods and business owners who own private video surveillance systems. We encourage both businesses and residents to register their cameras online by completing the form below.

This program is intended to let our officers know where cameras are active in the county in case a crime occurs. It is not intended for active surveillance, and officers will not have direct access to homeowners' cameras. Those who register a camera will be contacted if a crime occurs in the vicinity of that camera. Information provided by residents and businesses will be maintained in a secure database.

Your Heroes at Work

Armed Person / False Imprisonment

Officers responded to a male with a firearm in the Texaco. The initial report was that the caller was trapped inside with his family behind the counter. The suspect had attempted to get back there but was unable to. When officers arrived they tried to let the suspect leave to no avail. The victims were asked if they possessed any way to get out a back door and eventually they were able to get out through the back. The suspect could not be seen inside the business due to stickers all over the front glass, and the video feed on the victim’s phone would cut in and out. Sergeant Abernathy and Officer Reid made entry into the rear of the business to get a better grasp and possibly view video and made it to the video room behind the counter. They observed the male sitting at the casino machines. After watching for approximately 5 minutes they observed the male drop a handgun on the ground and place it in his right front track suit pocket. The male was called out multiple times. He did not respond although he would look around in the store. He was called out from inside the business, he did not respond. SWAT was called on scene. Eventually the male was taken into custody although he hid the firearm before he came out of the building. Everything was recovered. The male was charged with false imprisonment, possession of a firearm while in commission of a felony and received no bond.

Burglary / Obstruction / Drugs

Day Watch Officers were dispatched to a residence on Mableton Pkwy in reference to possible squatters. Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant who advised that when he arrived at his rental property this morning he noticed that the blinds had been moved from their previous position. Furthermore, the complainant attempted to enter one of his units and found that the front door was being blocked by some sort of structure from the inside. Officers were able to make entry into the residence and located a male inside. The male ignored all verbal commands and eventually jumped from a second storey window in an effort to escape but was soon taken into custody. Inside the residence, officers located small amounts of marijuana, cocaine and suspected ecstasy pills. The suspect also had active warrants for probation violation as well. Officers transported said suspect and charged him with Burglary, Obstruction and Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.

House Fire

On Sunday Morning around 1 a.m. fire engines were dispatched to a residence off of Austell Rd. Officers also responded and preceded the Fire Department. The home was fully involved. Sergeant McDonald was able to locate a badly burned adult female in her late 40’s in the backyard of the residence. After the Fire Department arrived, they were able to utilize their protective equipment to enter the residence. A second related female was found inside a bedroom closet and extricated by fire fighters. This female was conscious at the time of location, but succumbed to smoke inhalation and required treatment on scene. Officer Adams assisted medical personnel in loading patients and staging equipment. Officer Turner and Officer McConnell performed chest compressions. EMS also had to utilize an AED to restart the female’s heart. Both patients were transported to Cobb Hospital.  

These are only a few examples that demonstrate the hard work and professionalism exhibited by the officers of Precinct 2 on a daily basis.

Community Affairs Officers for Precinct 2

Officer O'Hara and Officer Conwell are assigned as the Community Affairs officers serving the community in Precinct 2.

The Community Affairs Unit seeks to effectively engage the community and citizens to strengthen Public Safety and community partnerships, facilitate a joint effort in solving problems which affect our community, and foster enhanced trust, communication, transparency, and mutual respect.

Officers help foster a strong working relationship between the Department and the community it serves. Officers work with homeowners associations, community organizations, advocacy groups, public and private schools, faith-based organizations, and individual residents to promote partnerships that are mutually beneficial.

As a result of these working partnerships, the officers are able to develop pro-active crime fighting projects that are jointly undertaken by Department personnel and citizens.
