Public Safety Topic of the Month
2020-2021 School Year
August 17th is the first day of school for Cobb with many surrounding counties starting earlier. After COVID kept the kids home for a good portion of last year we are sure there is a collective sigh of relief that things may be heading back to normal.
Precautions for the Kids
- Be sure your child knows his or her home phone number and address, your work number, the number of another trusted adult and how to call 911 for emergencies.
- Teach your children that when crossing the street, to not only walk instead of run, but if they drop something while crossing the street, to check both directions to determine if it’s safe to pick up the item.
- Drivers should not block the crosswalk when stopped at a red light or waiting to make a turn. Do not stop with a portion of your vehicle over the crosswalk. Blocking the crosswalk forces pedestrians to go around your vehicle and puts them in a dangerous situation
- The area 10 feet around a school bus is where children are in the most danger of being hit. Stop your car far enough from the bus to allow children the necessary space to safely enter and exit the bus.
- All vehicular traffic in both directions must stop on undivided roadways when students are entering or exiting the school bus. Be aware that a citation for this infraction is considered one of the most severe moving violations one can commit and is 6 points against your license!
- And parents, if you text and drive, what kind of example are you setting for your kids? If you tell your teens not to text and drive, then you must demand it of yourself. Remember your children are watching and absorbing what you are teaching.
Community Affairs Officers for Precinct 2
The Community Affairs Unit seeks to effectively engage the community and citizens to strengthen Public Safety and community partnerships, facilitate a joint effort in solving problems which affect our community, and foster enhanced trust, communication, transparency, and mutual respect. Officers work with homeowner’s associations, community organizations, advocacy groups, public and private schools, faith-based organizations, and individual residents to promote partnerships that are mutually beneficial.
As a result of these working partnerships, the officers are able to develop pro-active crime fighting projects that are jointly undertaken by Department personnel and citizens.

Your Precinct 2 Heroes at Work
Recovered Stolen Vehicle
On 7/20/2021, officers located a stolen vehicle inside of a local recreation area. The officers carefully coordinated a plan to prevent the vehicle from leaving the area and fleeing from them. Officers implemented the "plane maneuver" and boxed the vehicle in, taking a driver and passenger into custody without incident. The driver had warrants out for his arrest for drugs and fleeing from officers in the past. We commend these officers for making a plan that resulted in the safe apprehension of a wanted person and the recovery of a stolen auto.
Accident with Injuries
On 7/24/2021, officers were investigating an accident with injuries on I-20 East. Working accidents on the interstate is a harrowing experience due to the speed of the passing traffic. As the officers were working the accident, a vehicle rear-ended two Cobb County Patrol vehicles. It was discovered a short time later that the vehicle’s driver was DUI. Luckily the officers were out of their vehicle and were not injured.
Stolen Vehicle/Drug Arrest
On 7/9/2021, an officer observed a vehicle operating with a tag stolen off a similar vehicle. The officer went to stop the car, but it pulled into a gas station. The officer called for back-up and other officers were able to box the vehicle in at the gas station, preventing the car from fleeing. The male attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested for the stolen tag and possession of heroin and methamphetamines. The driver also had three felony warrants.
Cobb County Camera Registry
The Cobb County Police Camera Registration program is a police/community video partnership that operates on a voluntary basis with homeowners, neighborhoods and business owners who own private video surveillance systems. We encourage both businesses and residents to register their cameras online by completing the form below.
This program is intended to let our officers know where cameras are active in the county in case a crime occurs. It is not intended for active surveillance, and officers will not have direct access to homeowners' cameras. Those who register a camera will be contacted if a crime occurs in the vicinity of that camera. Information provided by residents and businesses will be maintained in a secure database.
