Serious Injury Collision

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious injury collision that occurred on I-575 south at I-75 on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at 7:32 a.m. 

According to investigators, a black 2020 Hyundai Elantra was traveling south on I-575, approaching the merge with I-75 when the driver fell asleep. The Hyundai Elantra left the roadway and continued south alongside the grass shoulder before dropping down a descending embankment. The front of the Hyundai Elantra collided with a concrete drainage channel at the bottom of the embankment before rolling onto its right side, where it came to final uncontrolled rest. 

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra, 27-year-old Prasanth Kotharu, and passengers, 31-year-old Jayakumar Palanisamy of Dunwoody, and 33-year-old Samuel Anbumani of Dunwoody, were transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries.
