Serious Injury Collision (Nov. 13th)

The Cobb County Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious injury traffic collision that occurred on Riverside Parkway south of Hartman Road on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at 3:20 a.m. 

According to investigators, a gray 2007 Honda Odyssey was traveling south on Riverside Parkway, south of Hartman Road. For unknown reasons, the Honda failed to negotiate a left curve, and the vehicle exited the western side of the roadway. The Honda then traveled over a raised concrete curb and entered onto a grass shoulder before colliding into a wooden fence, a light pole, and subsequently a tree. The collision with the tree re-directed the Honda south, and the vehicle began a clockwise rotation. The Honda re-entered Riverside Parkway and came to a final uncontrolled rest in the southbound travel lanes.

The driver of the Honda Odyssey, 46-year-old Jeffery Roberts of Austell, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger of the Honda Odyssey, 49-year-old Jimmy Roberts of Fort Worth, Texas, was transported to Wellstar Atlanta Medical Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Jimmy Roberts was unrestrained during the collision. Their next of kin have been notified.

Fatal Traffic Collision

The Cobb County Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on South Cobb Drive at Interstate 285 North (I-285) exit and entrance ramps on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at 9:31 p.m.  

According to investigators, a red 2011 Kenworth T660, in combination with a 53-foot semitrailer, was stopped west on South Cobb Drive for a red traffic signal while a white 2005 Ford Econoline van was also west on South Cobb Drive. The Ford was approaching the tractor-trailer from the rear when the left front of the Ford collided with the tractor-trailer's right rear. The Ford then came to a final uncontrolled rest partially under the right rear of the tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Kenworth T660, 48-year-old Ashraf Omar of Stockbridge, was not injured. 

The driver of the Ford Econoline, 24-year-old Angel S. Gomez of Marietta, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. Next of kin has been notified.
