Serious Injury Collision

The Cobb County Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious injury traffic collision that occurred on Riverside Parkway south of Hartman Road on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at 3:20 a.m.

According to investigators, a gray 2007 Honda Odyssey was traveling south on Riverside Parkway, south of Hartman Road. For unknown reasons, the Honda failed to negotiate a left curve, and the vehicle exited the western side of the roadway. The Honda then traveled over a raised concrete curb and entered onto a grass shoulder before colliding into a wooden fence, a light pole, and subsequently a tree. The collision with the tree re-directed the Honda south, and the vehicle began a clockwise rotation. The Honda re-entered Riverside Parkway and came to a final uncontrolled rest in the southbound travel lanes.

The driver of the Honda Odyssey, 46-year-old Jeffery Roberts of Austell, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger of the Honda Odyssey, 49-year-old Jimmy Roberts of Fort Worth, Texas, was transported to Wellstar Atlanta Medical Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Jimmy Roberts was unrestrained during the collision. Their next of kin have been notified.

This collision remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information regarding this collision should contact investigators at 770-499-3987.
