Serious Injury Traffic Crashes
Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious injury traffic crash that occurred on northbound I-75 just south of I-285 on Monday, March 2nd at 11:31 p.m. According to investigators, a white 2016 Jeep Cherokee stopped in the #3 lane (third from center), and the driver remained in the vehicle and turned on the hazard lights.
20-year-old Simone Jackson of Milton, GA was driving a silver 2014 Nissan Sentra northbound in the #3 lane and crashed into the rear of the Jeep. The crash forced the Nissan to the right where it crashed into the retaining wall on the right shoulder before coming to a stop in the right emergency lane. The Jeep was pushed forward in the #3 lane, where it remained.
25-year-old Benjamin Chestnut of Kennesaw, GA was driving a gray 2013 Ford F-150 northbound in the #3 lane. The Ford also crashed into the rear of the Jeep. The crash forced the Ford into the #4 lane (next lane to the right), and the Jeep was forced into the #1 lane (far left lane).
Simone Jackson (Nissan Sentra) was not injured. Benjamin Chestnut (Ford F-150) was transported to Kennestone Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 30-year-old Jordan Witherspoon of Kerby, KS (driver of the Jeep Cherokee) was transported to Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries.
