Serious Traffic Collision (May 14, 2019)

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious traffic collision with injuries which occurred on May 13, 2019 at 3:07 a.m. on George Busbee Parkway south of Frey Road.

Per investigators, a gray 2003 Toyota Corolla was traveling south on George Busbee Parkway south of Frey Road. As the vehicles operator was negotiating a curve, it struck a curb and then continued onto the center median where it collided with a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old James Koontz of Kennesaw, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with minor injuries. He was charged with D.U.I., Failure to maintain lane, and Serious Injury by Vehicle.

The passenger of the vehicle, 27-year-old Christian Sams of Kennesaw, was transported to Kennestone Hospital with life threatening injuries.
