Fatal Pedestrian Collision

The Cobb County Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in Precinct One on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 11:21 p.m. on Cobb Parkway north of Cobb EMC Parkway.

Per investigators, a red GMC Jimmy was travelling south on Cobb Parkway approaching Cobb EMC Parkway. A pedestrian was walking a bicycle across Cobb Parkway. The pedestrian entered the path of the GMC and the GMC collided with the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and was pronounced deceased. Next of kin has not been notified.

The driver of the GMC was identified as 51-year-old Steven McCabe of Powder Springs. He was treated on scene for minor injuries.

The passenger of the GMC was identified as 69-year-old Maria Diaz of Marietta. Ms. Diaz was not injured in the collision.
