*UPDATE* Fatal Pedestrian Hit and Run

***UPDATE***

With help from Cobb County Police Precinct 2 Officers, the driver involved in the fatal pedestrian collision was identified as 44-year-old Melissa Mabry of Austell. Ms. Mabry was operating a white 2020 Kia Optima when the collision occurred. Ms. Mabry was identified when someone called police in reference to damage on the Kia.

Ms. Mabry was arrested and charged with Driving with a Suspended License (M) and Felony Hit and Run.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian hit and run that occurred on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 7:47 p.m. in Precinct Two on Riverside Parkway, north of Premier Lane. 

A light-colored car was travelling south on Riverside Parkway in the left lane approaching Premier Lane. A pedestrian was crossing Riverside Parkway in a westerly direction. The pedestrian entered the path of the car and the car collided with the pedestrian.

The driver of the car did not stop and continued southbound on Riverside Parkway.

The pedestrian was identified as 64-year-old Jasper Arnold of Austell. Mr. Arnold was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.

The collision remains under investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Cobb County Police Department STEP Unit at 770-499-3987.
